THE QUICK ANSWER

Apply the Mutation Consumable to a placed, unhatched egg in your own base. Select the consumable, move close to the egg, then use its Apply Mutation interaction. An already-hatched pet is a different target.

These steps cover the Boss Shop Mutation Consumable shown in the linked footage and guide. Other mutation items can have different rules. Read your item name before using it.

Before you use it

Keep an egg waiting to hatch in your base and a Mutation Consumable ready to equip. The footage shows the egg being placed on the floor before application. Holding an egg in the hotbar alone is not the same state.

The written guide lists the Boss Shop as the source. Check the shop in your server for the item name and current price; this page does not promise that a past event shop is still open.

Place → equip → apply

  1. Place the egg in your base. Use an unhatched egg. Keep an eye on its remaining hatch time.
  2. Select the consumable in your hotbar. Check that the selected item is the consumable rather than the egg.
  3. Walk close to the placed egg. Look for Apply Mutation. On a keyboard, the documented interaction is to hold E. On touch or controller, use the prompt your device displays.
  4. Read the result before using another item. A failed attempt and a missing interaction need different checks.

Did it fizzle, or did nothing happen?

The consumable fizzled…The written guide identifies this as a failed roll that uses the item. Stop and check the egg and remaining items before retrying.

The linked video describes a chance-based item. A purchase is not a guaranteed mutation. We do not infer a current drop rate, an income multiplier or a guaranteed number of attempts from a recording.
